Adrian Has a Blog

my good friend Adrian has a blog, but it’s a little different from most. he was diagnosed with leukemia less than two weeks ago and is using the blog as a diary to document his story and keep friends/family updated. he was admitted to the hospital two days after the diagnosis and is writing from there. he will be spending a total of three months in the hospital, with a week’s break every month. it’s all still pretty shocking how quickly everything has happened, but reading his posts keep me informed and in touch. he’s always been a great writer, so his posts are enjoyable, albeit emotional at times. i highly suggest you start at the beginning and join the journey. adrian, you and your family are in my prayers.

Fruit

xkcd has created a wonderful graph on the tastiness and ease of edibility of certain fruits.

I couldn’t agree more, coconuts are not worth my effort. They’re fine if someone else prepares them though.

Sleep Little Baby

we just discovered that one of the few things that soothes our baby is white noise. as she has been labeled “feisty” by the pediatrician, we are grasping onto anything that will avert a total meltdown. in a very timely fashion, lifehacker just posted about about this sound sleeping soundboard. it’ll be nice to create the right mix to help soothe both baby and parents.

Hello, Maggie

We’re pleased to welcome Margaret Evelisse to our family. She weighed in at 9lbs and is 21.5″ long. Everyone is happy and healthy, adjusting to all the new experiences life has to offer.

i heart bikes (and socks) and epcot!

a few weeks ago chris and melissa came into town and we immersed ourselves in the epcot experience. although it was melissa’s birthday, pilar and i made out like bandits with the new i heart bikes socks. they are badass, and i encourage everyone to buy a pair now! besides, how can you go wrong with the fine workmanship of sock guy. but i digress.

early march is definitely the time to visit the theme parks in orlando. it’s off season, meaning fewer people, and the weather is much better than the sticky, sweaty summer. we spent some time on the rides in the front of the park, but the real fun is strolling through the countries. we contemplated having drinks in every country, but were quickly shut down by my personal favorite, germany. despite having had many wonderful moments there, the new policy is that you can only visit the beer garden (and oompa loompa band) if pay for the buffet, which is not vegetarian friendly. thankfully, england was not as discriminating. we imbibed in many a pint and story there. thankfully, our timing was perfect, and we enjoyed the fireworks as we finished dinner in japan. all in all, another great epcot experience with friends.

Run to the Hills

since i’ve been trying to run more, one of the biggest challenges is finding new routes. a while back i found a site to map distance using google maps. today i came across MapMyRun, which will calculate your pace, calories burned and speed. now to find the application to kick me out of the house and force me to run. :)
