John Fahey Tribute

M. Ward is putting together a great tribute to one of the best American guitar players of this century. i’m really excited about this line-up and interested in how it will all come together.

Simplicity

Continuing with the thread of minimalist tech, I share Jed’s Other Poem. It’s a video to a Grandaddy song created by a fan on his Apple II. It’s one of my favorite Grandaddy songs on The Sophtware Slump and is done justice by the video. Simple, beautiful, perfect. Oh, and the BASIC code at the end brings back many memories.

The Shining - A New Twist

ahhhh, The Shining. such a wonderful film about one man’s struggle to rekindle his writing and his romance, or so it may seem from this re-edited trailer (quicktime movie).

i really love how it all turns around as solisbury hill is played. how many movies have used that song over the years?

Pixelated Star Wars

I came across these animated gifs of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back and am amazed how well they tell the stories in about 200k. All the important points of each movie are hit, and the emotion is surprisingly powerful.

devoted bee

chad at devoted bee has updated his site and included a searchable database of his drawings. it’s great to see some of my favorites: cantrememberwhyheshere, evenaneggcostumecantkeephimfromthejoysofflowerhill, evilcultmemberspendsmostofhistimenotbeingveryevil, iamalwaysyoursbutonlysometimesyouaremine, songbringsinthesun and welcomebacksunihopeyouwillstaythistime. these pics always make me smile.

Something for Orlando

Start an underpants run in Orlando. I won’t join but I’ll be there to cheer for you. :)

Stop emailing me!

How do I set this site to stop emailing me whenever a comment is made to one of my posts? I can’t find the setting, and it is really annoying me.

WebCT and BlackBoard Merger

this is pretty big news in the course management systems market, as these are the two biggest companies. it seems like a fairly even merger right now, as some developers and management from both companies are staying on. since WebCT just released a major product, i’m curious if that’ll be left unscathed or fall by the wayside. regardless, next year should bring some interesting news here.

A frustration with this popular theme…

While this theme is popular enough to be immidiately adopted by rnix.com, I have one major frustration. All extra line breaks are deleted, so paragraphs run into one another like a bunch of deaf bats.
very
very
frustrating.

Soundtrack of the Summer 2005!

the summer is over, but the soundtrack lives on. please feel free to share your thoughts about the artists, songs, design, whatever. this is truly a group project, so i wanted that to continue into the listening and reflection. if you haven’t received one yet, just let me know.
