Read Watch This!

hot on the heels of their list of books everyone should read, the Guardian has published a list of the 50 best screenplay adaptations. once again, there will probably be a few rumblings about movies included or not included. lord of the rings and harry potter are sadly absent, but many great films are on the list.

Getting from Here to There

online mapping services have come a long way since the advent of mapquest. several different services vie to be top dog in this market, and users are reaping the benefits. the features keep rolling out, and the competition slugs on. thankfully, techcrunch has done a nice job comparing the different mapping services. the bottom line, they clearly endorse yahoo maps.

“Mapquest is the most popular mapping service but lags on features and usability. Google is the most notable and has a ubiquitous API. Windows Live Local dazzles with its creative views and features but falls short of the others in direction functionality. Mapquest offers a number of features but still is missing satellite imagery, which makes it trail the competitors in core functionality. Ask Maps is a worthy competitor but had the highest error rate of the group.

Overall, Yahoo Maps was by far the best application tested. Its fast Flash interface, multipoint directions, live traffic information, and easy send-to-mobile feature make it the hands down winner. It also features the most robust API options.”

i heart bikes (and socks) and epcot!

a few weeks ago chris and melissa came into town and we immersed ourselves in the epcot experience. although it was melissa’s birthday, pilar and i made out like bandits with the new i heart bikes socks. they are badass, and i encourage everyone to buy a pair now! besides, how can you go wrong with the fine workmanship of sock guy. but i digress.

early march is definitely the time to visit the theme parks in orlando. it’s off season, meaning fewer people, and the weather is much better than the sticky, sweaty summer. we spent some time on the rides in the front of the park, but the real fun is strolling through the countries. we contemplated having drinks in every country, but were quickly shut down by my personal favorite, germany. despite having had many wonderful moments there, the new policy is that you can only visit the beer garden (and oompa loompa band) if pay for the buffet, which is not vegetarian friendly. thankfully, england was not as discriminating. we imbibed in many a pint and story there. thankfully, our timing was perfect, and we enjoyed the fireworks as we finished dinner in japan. all in all, another great epcot experience with friends.
