Non-Sequitor of the Day: Zombie Haikus

zombies have really been expressing themselves on the Internet lately. in addition to these jazzy haikus, they’re trying to find love at Zombie Harmony.

RIP - Just for Friends

i’m very sad to report that robert has taken down his site Just for Friends. it has been up and running in many different forms throughout the years, and has always been a great place for a group of us to share, discuss and, at times, press some buttons. nathan mentioned that the straw that broke the camel’s back was frustration with WordPress. regardless of the reasons, I know I will be just one of many people that will miss all that his site had to offer.

he is still sharing through FriendFeed, but that service has more of an automated content distribution feel and less discussion. he’s hoping everyone will jump on board, I know i’m willing to check it out.

Andromeda’s Attic

our friend laura recently launched her online store for new parents. Andromeda’s Attic carries cloth diapers, baby carriers, and diaper, all handmade of a fantastic quality. we were lucky enough to have her send us a baby carrier that we used quite a bit. unlike most, you can use it for much longer than normal carriers. from her site:

All of our diapers, carriers, and bags are hand cut and sewn with care and attention to detail. Every Andromeda’s Attic design has been tested by real mothers and refined to perfection.

Styles range from kitschy 50/60’s style to modern fun patterns. We are constantly updating the fabric choices so check back often.

oh, and erik did a great job on the design as usual.

Attractive Real Estate

My favorite new site is “a collection of poorly chosen photos from real estate listings. with love.” enjoy!

Bag of Holding

gamers, toss out that ratty old Crown Royal bag you’ve been keeping your dice in. Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has created instructions on how to make a d12 bag (of holding) to store them. something tells me they came up with this idea while sitting in their meditation chamber.

Hedgehog Launch

WARNING: do not play Hedgehog Launch if you need to get any work done in the next several hours. highly addictive! but if you think you have the fortitude to help launch this cute little guy into space in the name of science, go for it. 8 days 5 days is my best effort.

Bowie on Bowie

despite many years in the music business, David Bowie continues to surprise and impress fans. last Sunday he included a free 12-song cd of his favorite songs through the years in the Daily Mail paper. it’s quite a varied compilation spanning his career. the article includes his stories about the songs, how they came about, and why they are still meaningful to him. i particularly enjoyed reading about one of my favorite tracks from Hunky Dory, the Bewlay Brothers:

Unlike the rest of the Hunky Dory album, which I had written before the studio had been booked, this song was an unwritten piece that I felt had to be recorded instantaneously.

I had a whole wad of words that I had been writing all day. I had felt distanced and unsteady all evening, something settling in my mind. It’s possible that I may have smoked something in my Bewlay pipe. I distinctly remember a sense of emotional invasion.

I do believe that we finished the whole thing on that one night. It’s likely that I ended up drinking at the Sombrero in Kensington High Street or possibly Wardour Street’s crumbling La Chasse. Cool.
